Misinformation and disinformation have recently become a focus of public attention because of their influence on politics and the news cycle.

De Facto explores the negative impact of misinformation and disinformation once they leave the news cycle and become part of the many resources available on the internet to learners of all ages and in various learning contexts. The impact on education. The impact on us.
The problem we attempt to solve is how to shield our education and training systems from factually inaccurate information. We acknowledge there is a double vulnerability issue - on one side there are the learners, who use such information inadvertently in their learning projects, on the other - the teachers and trainers, who use it to design and prepare their lessons, and to assess learners' submissions.
We are putting together our sectoral experience and selected Cognitive Science research in an attempt to design practical solutions which would equip teachers, trainers and their learners with better understanding of the cognitive processes, their triggers, biases and limitations.
A collection of fully scripted case studies, infographics, training resources and practical kits to be used by teachers in adult education and training.

23.08.2020 We present the outputs of the DeFacto project

The DeFacto project came to an end in August and this is an opportunity to present some of many outputs. Educators are served by the Guidebook dealing with misinformation and disinformation in education and training context.

The guidebook is based on the rich theoretical basis of the project, but it is unique in that it contains the experience of teachers shared in joint trainings carried out in 2019-2020.

17.07.2020 DeFacto - the importance of being Earnest

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the need of being able to check the information presented to us has increased significantly. We have been under continuous „attack“ of media publishing tons of news where one can get easily lost or be misled.

So although our project is coming to its end, it is more current than ever before. Our case studies showed how easy it is to manipulate the human brain into believing what seems to be the truth. Also the practical training which took place helped to increase awareness how important it is to incorporate this knowledge in our education systems. We are going on with our effort to teach the educators to use the tools and methods available to them when passing on the knowledge. Children and not only them need to learn how to check what they read, hear or see. That the „hot news“ is maybe not as „hot“ as it is presented which we have proved during our practical training. It is the hands-on experience that makes all the difference and brings the awestrucking effect and the multiplier events are a perfect place where to demonstrate all acquired knowledge as we did in Kroměříž at the beginning of July. All participants have shown great interest in the subject and its practicality for schools..

09.02.2020 Kroměříž hosted the DeFacto training event

Kromeriz became the venue of a training course for educators from Bulgaria, Belgium, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom and Slovenia. Their task was to pilot the methodology developed as a part of the DeFacto project.

TThe project is focused on working with information. The training course took place at Higher Vocational Pedagogical and Social and High Pedagogical School in Kromeriz, on 3.2.2020 – 7.2.2020.
Teachers positively evaluated new knowledge about the importance of verifying information and trying some practical case studies which they can later apply to their own teaching.
